As the holidays approach, students and staff are preparing gifts for friends and families. Before immediately going to larger companies for gifts, take a moment to support our local businesses as they are getting ready for the holiday season.
Local businesses like Bella-Gia Boutique are getting ready for the holiday season to provide for and satisfy their customers. The store offers various products to fulfill customers’ needs and wants this holiday season.
“As gifts, our staff recommends Pandora, Sorel, Nordic Beach, and for a more thoughtful gift we provide personal shopping assistance for your loved ones,” said Bella-Gia staff member Stacy Shaw.
During the holidays, small businesses rely on these busy times to profit and to get through the season.
OH senior Natalie Aguilar said, “We should support our local Oswego businesses because the products they sell are coming [right] from their own pockets.”
Oswego community members can support these businesses by shopping for holiday gifts, for the winter season, and more. These businesses specifically consider what their customers want since they’re so local, unlike larger companies that mass-manufacture their products.

“We should support our local Oswego businesses,” agreed OH senior and business student Sophia Gunkel. “[They have] genuinely kind people who run and own them.”
Often, small businesses are family-owned and their profits go directly to the owners, helping them get by. “These people also could have families and could possibly be trying their absolute best to put a roof over their heads,” said Aguilar.
Small businesses put a lot of effort into their businesses to give a personal and customizable experience. “You will not get the same sense of community at your nearest Target or Walmart,” said Gunkel.
Bella-Gia strives to make close bonds with their customers to make their experience comfortable.
“For families, we offer amazing customer service and build connections with customers and family members making Bella-Gia a comfortable shopping destination,” said Shaw. Supporting small businesses is very important, especially during the holidays.
“Students and staff can support local small businesses by shopping at them rather than going to big company stores first,” said Shaw.
