On Oct. 6, Oswego held its eighth annual fall festival on the streets of downtown Oswego. During this festival, called the Fox Fall Festival, local business owners set up tents and represented their businesses.
“You have to come down and see it and all of the things downtown has to offer,” said Fox Fall Festival vendor and Blooming Succulents Studio owner Markita Young. “We actually really like to get people down here and it is just like fun to show what our small town can do and we’re a small town with a big heart.”
Fox Fall Festival creates a great opportunity for the community to express itself during the fall season, while also bringing people into the community. The downtown Oswego festival attracts many people from neighboring towns.
“We accidentally stumbled across it by mistake,” said resident Brittany Robinson from Aurora. “We were gonna try a restaurant out, but we saw the festival and we were like, let’s check it out!”
At the Fall Festival, food trucks come from all over Illinois to sell their food. They offer an array of food options, such as lobster, Mexican food, and other treats.
Bella Noyes, a young community member, said her favorite part of the festival was “get[ting] Italian ice,” while her sister Emma Noyes said the “freaky fries” were what she wanted to try next.
For children, there are activities such as apple fishing, reptile showcases, and a bouncy house. The Fox River Academy of Music and Art provided face painting for children.
“ face painting,” and also “seeing all of the people around listening to music,” said OH student Gwendalin Yen.
The Downtown Oswego Association organizes the Oswego Fall Festival, as well as many other events that help bring the community together.
“The cookie walk, the Christmas walk, Fox Fall Fest, the Coco Crawl [[…]] all of these events that bring people into the heart of our downtown,” said Megan Dellaringa, owner of Floral Expressions and Gifts Inc. in downtown Oswego.
As a member of the Downtown Oswego Association, Dellaringa shared her perspective on what the association provides. “I think for downtown Oswego, there are a ton of events happening, so the Oswego Downtown Association puts out a lot of hard work in the fall and towards the holiday.”
The Oswego Fall Fox Fest provides amazing opportunities in downtown Oswego. It brings together community members and attracts many.
“[Let us] come together as a community, and celebrate. We have a lot of other stores down here, different locations, restaurants, and coffee shops, so just come on downtown this fall!” said Young.
