Spring bears witness to seniors watching their calendars fill up with many upcoming graduation events and celebrations. The major events coming up are the graduation rehearsal, senior brunch, and graduation.
“It’s bittersweet, thinking about graduating is a bit nerve-wracking but exciting at the same time. Can’t wait for the next chapter,” said senior Izzy Cano.
Like Cano, seniors are looking ahead to graduate events. Information from the OH community is below for seniors and their families; this includes graduation rehearsal, senior brunch, and the graduation ceremony.
Graduation Rehearsal
There will be a mandatory graduation rehearsal held on Fri., May 17 in the Main Gym at OHS. All graduates are required to attend the rehearsal. Practice will be at 9 a.m., and graduates will be able to enter through door 13 or door 35.
Senior Brunch
Senior Brunch is open to all seniors who bought a ticket in advance. Tickets, found here, are $35 and will be available until May 6th. The event will be at Whitetail Ridge Golf Club in Yorkville.
In past years, Senior Brunch has followed graduation practice with boxed lunches to go. This year will be held in a more formal place with the dress attire being Sunday brunch/dressy casual.
“There will be a variety of different food options that the venue will be able to provide both vegetarian, gluten-free, [and accommodations for] different dietary restrictions so we can hopefully cater [to] as many students as possible,” said event organizer and OH senior class sponsor Stacey Baker.
The brunch will immediately follow the graduation rehearsal, starting at 11:30 a.m. on Fri., May 17. It will end around 1:30 p.m.
“I hope it provides one more opportunity just to be able to connect with their peers [and] just gives peers some time together,” said Baker.
Seniors can email Baker with any questions regarding the event.
Graduation
Graduation will be held on Sat., May 18, at 10 a.m. It will be at the Northern Illinois University (NIU) Convocation Center. Doors will open for guests at 9 a.m. and graduates can invite up to 15 guests according to the Google doc sent to all graduates. Seating is open this year, so no tickets are being sold. Graduates and guests may park in lots P or PS and enter through entrances two or five.
According to Google doc, sign language interpreters will be at the ceremony in Section 101. After the ceremony, graduates go back to the multipurpose room to pick up their diplomas. The graduation ceremony will be live-streamed, and the link will be on the district website.
Students not attending the graduation ceremony should notify Jill O’Neal in the Student Services Department. They will receive information on picking up their diploma.
