Senior Column: Life as a dandelion in a field of finer flowers
Throughout my 18 years, the number of times I have been asked the questions “Do you speak?” and “Why are you so quiet?” is too high to count, and for a while, I’ve never been able to give a solid answer. The truth is, silence is a flickering flame within my soul; it never goes out, and it spreads and shrinks in a gradual cycle, always lingering. With the people I loved and were closest to, I was a completely different version of myself, one who spoke her mind and laughed until her stomach ached and would stop midwalk to pick a dandelion, cradling it in her hand like her most prized possession.
OH Art Show: Unique pieces display student creativity, personal connections
From painting to jewelry, ceramics to graphic art, and drawings to sculpture, the annual OH Art Show decorated the art hallways from April 14 to 25 and showcased the many talents of OH Panther artists. “I think it is nice to have a show that displays all types of artwork created throughout the year,” said OH senior Keagan Reiseck. “At the show each year, you can observe and appreciate your peers' work and gain inspiration.”
One Book One School: Uniting the community
Every year, the OH One Book One School Program (OBOS) collectively decides on a book for the community to read together, getting the students to vote for a title. The book chosen for this year was "A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” by Suzanne Collins, the prequel to "The Hunger Games," which is a popular series among students.
Enhancing the prom vibe: The best music genres all will enjoy
Each student at OH is unique and has varying interests, so choosing prom music can be tricky, as highlighted in last year's 42Fifty opinion article about music at school dances. However, by incorporating all student opinions, OH Prom on May 3 can be enjoyable for everyone. “We always look at different DJs before prom but tend to go with one we have had success with in prior years,” said Jennifer Keto, OH teacher and prom organizer. “They send out a playlist link that we then send out to juniors and seniors. Students can then add the songs that they want to the list.”
