Theaters ignite into flame: Avatar Fire and Ash’s volcanic debut
"Avatar: Fire and Ash" premiered Dec. 19 over winter break, and as audiences took in the film's ground-breaking visuals, captivating performances, and empowering themes, theaters truly erupted into excited flame. The new movie played as the third film in director James Cameron’s trilogy. His previous films, and "Avatar: The Way of Water," left audiences wanting more, which led to the third film's release in the Avatar series.
Turning the page: NEHS hosts school book drive to benefit community
OH’s National English Honor Society (NEHS) empowered local literacy efforts by organizing and hosting a school book drive in the past weeks by working with school and local community partners to ensure the event's success. The book drive ran from Jan. 19 to Jan. 30, and as donations came in, NEHS members orchestrated the event with a meaningful objective. “The purpose of our book drive is to support literacy in our communities… We're trying to get as many books out to young students as we can so that everyone has an equal opportunity to keep reading,” said NEHS President and senior Gabrielle Baier.
Snow good: How OH students celebrated winter break
Winter break is officially over, and that just breaks my heart. With over two weeks off, OH students and staff tried their best to stay occupied. My name is Jia Nair, and here is a quick recap of how Oswego’s community spent their winter break. School was let out on Dec. 19, and it didn't start again until Jan. 6, which is 18 days off. With time away from school and work, people began to feel lonely. Fortunately, the break was the perfect time to catch up with friends. Emma Byron, an OH sophomore, said, “My friend group did a Secret Santa, we took several trips to Starbucks and Target, and celebrated New Year's Eve together.”
Podcast: Bells begin to jingle as students share favorite holiday tunes
As Mariah Carey said, "It's time for the holiday season!" And what would the holidays be without favorite holiday tunes? Podcast hosts Jia Nair and Stephanie Mayorga rap about holiday music and share student poll feedback about favorite and least favorite holiday songs. The songs students chose from were among the Top 20 Christmas songs ever, according to Millie Forrest from Access Creative. Listen in for the best and the worst of the season!
