The Weeknd, a trailblazer in the R&B industry, is set to release his sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, on Jan. 31. His influence in the R&B world is undeniable, solidifying his position as one of the best artists in the genre.
On Jan. 13, The Weeknd announced that he would be pushing back the release of the album six days. This and more were postponed or canceled due to the wildfires happening in Los Angeles, like his Rose Bowl halftime performance.
“The Weeknd has some of the best albums in the pop world,” said OH junior Nate Bjes. “For his final album, I believe this will be his best one yet.”
Canadian singer-songwriter Abel Makkonen Tesfay, known as The Weeknd, began his career in 2009. He co-founded the record label XO, and two years later, he began to make three mixtapes as his first debut in 2011, but he didn’t gain recognition until 2015 when his hit song ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ from the album Beauty Behind the Madness gained popularity on music billboards all over the world, gaining fast international fame.
Since then, fans have continued to review his discography and listen to his old studio albums and music. The Weeknd has also told the media that this will be his last album for a while, as he plans to take a break from releasing new music to focus on other projects.
“The Weeknd gets a lot of hate in the pop culture world, but I feel like he should be loved more since his pop music gets so much attention,” said OH junior Brian Bell.
The Weeknd also announced he will have two notable guest appearances on the album: Playboi Carti and Anitta.
“The Weeknd has shown and proved to us why he’s one of the best and consistent music artists in the world,” said Bjes, “He was the first artist I actually fell in love with, I keep hoping people will love his music after this final album of his.”
The Weeknd has proved himself one of the best R&B artists to ever create music. Many people love his music because of his catchy melodies and emotional depth. His lyrics show more emotions, and people love them because they show self-reflection and themes of love.
“The Weeknd’s music is like a piece of art of his soul, and it’s something that everyone can relate to,” said Bell.
His discography will always be a fan-favorite collection of music; he will continue to be a dominant artist in this world.
