OH junior Kam Jenkins’ last season was a highlight reel for the Oswego varsity baseball team. Jenkins had an impressive batting average of .320, including three home runs. These achievements helped Jenkins and Oswego baseball finish with a record of 19-13-1.
“Last year I think we had a decent regular season. Sweeping Oswego East was big for us in our seeding for playoffs, but we didn’t go out how we wanted to,” said Jenkins. “We had a very upsetting end to our season. This season is going to be different from last year, that’s all I know.”
Jenkins has recently decided to commit to the University of Missouri and he is set to join Missouri in 2027 when he graduates. When asked about the recruiting process Jenkins explained, “Going through the recruiting process was a little stressful, but I was also blessed to get the calls I was getting from the caliber of schools that were calling. It just showed how I put myself on the map, from all my hard work.”
Last year, Jenkins was a sophomore on the varsity baseball team. As a junior, he will most likely be Oswego’s breakout player this year. Jenkins has a bright future and season to look forward to this year. He’s got so much to learn about, and it will be exciting to see where he goes in college baseball.
Senior teammate Brogan Mello, although older than Jenkins, had plenty of compliments for Jenkins. “Kam was a sophomore who started on varsity this past season and was named all-conference. He is always a great guy to be around whether playing baseball or just in life. Always looking to get better every day and he has a big junior season ahead of him. Go Mizzou!”
Many of these older teammates know Jenkins well, because of the several sports he plays, including Easton Ruby, a senior on the varsity baseball team, “Kam is a great teammate, very fun to be around, always a smile on his face no matter the score.”
Regarding his future, Jenkins remains determined, ”I’m ready to show everybody what I can do and stay consistent throughout all of my years of being a varsity player. This team that we have this year has a lot of returning players and we are ready to make a run in the conference and in the playoffs,” said Jenkins.
To add on to Jenkins’ exciting high school baseball career he’s joined by a senior-heavy team this year and he hopes to have a good run with a very experienced group this year. Oswego could very well make it to the playoffs this year, and maybe even win the state championship.
