In “To the Bone,” The Kinks perfectly describe the excitement of buying vinyl records: “in the back of a record rack, there’s an old double pack. 12 inches and black with an old crumpled cover. But every record is stacked.” That same experience is exactly what I feel when walking into a little record shop on the corner of First and S. Water Street in Batavia, Illinois.
The band started writing, producing and mixing their own music in the living room of their apartment in Manhattan. They started with a harmonica, a piano, and a bass, but now they play a variety of musical instruments.
On Aug. 25, 2023, a 17-year-old named Kai released an EP titled “Today I Laid Down.” He submitted the project to a YouTube livestream by Brad Taste in Music, to which it was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback and praise by both Brad and the stream chat. Only a few months following this, Kai tragically took his own life. Since then, “Today I Laid Down” has received even more praise and is now a beloved staple of the online music community.
The Oswego High School Drama department delivered a great experience and an amazing performance of the play “Clue,” adapted by Jonathan Lynn. The show came together extremely well, based on the acting, writing, and set design.
If you were one of the millions of middle-schoolers that was obsessed with either Greek mythology (for some odd reason… I don’t know why that was such a common occurrence) or the Percy Jackson series, I have the perfect series for your high-schooler heart that’s longing for that sense of childhood again.
