On April 28, a benefit basketball game was hosted by Daily Dreamerz, a start- up production, and film company, for OHS grad and former OPB member, Lawrence Joshua.
LJ committed suicide about a month ago.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for the ages of 10-24. Also, around 45,000 people in the United States commit suicide.
Therefore, the basketball game was to help support and bring awareness to this issue. Past OHS alumni, and even current students participated in the game.
Also, T-shirts, long sleeves, and hoodies, were sold to raise money for the cause. Which, all of the money raised went to support a suicide awareness program.
Plenty of fans, friends of LJ, family, both past and present players of OPB, and people who just wanted to show some support, packed the main gym, of Oswego High School to support the cause, LJ and his family.
The energy in the gym was very upbeat, filled with fun and competitiveness from all four teams. The event overall was a celebration of life and to bring attention to the issue of suicide.
