Oswego High School’s varsity Panthers overcome drought by defeating Romeoville with a 2 – 0 win.

Varsity OPS had their home field advantage while facing off against the Romeoville Spartans, being their sixth home game of the season. The win redeemed OPS after a 0 – 0 tie at home against West Chicago.

Team players Kaylee Zimbelmann and Ashley Bailey contributed to the Panther win, with Zimbelmann’s advancements up top throughout the entire match, as well as putting one up in the second half. Bailey scores in the first half off of a corner, putting the team up by one early in the game. With a whole team effort, the Panthers were able keep a great lead and secure the dub.

Varsity goalkeeper Megan Newton, who saved multiple shots on goal throughout the match, was very ecstatic about the win: “We really deserved that win. We were connecting passes and making great runs like we did in practice. We were talking throughout. We showed out as a strong team, and that’s how we finished. We need to continue playing like this.”

The Panthers’ record is now 5-6-1, and they are moving forward and progressing to overcome their loss record and begin a new win streak.

OPS’ next game will be a Naperville Conference Invite at Naperville North High School on April 26. Come out and show your support!
